When Sydney Metro is extended into the central business district (CBD) and beyond in 2024, metro rail will run from Sydney booming North West region under Sydney Harbour, through new underground stations in the CBD and beyond to the south west as you can see in sydney metro map. State-of-the-art technology will keep customers connected – from planning a journey from home using smart phone travel apps to real time information at metro stations and on board trains. The modern stations will be fully accessible for people with a disability, prams and children, including level access between platforms and trains. Customer service assistants will be at every station and will also move through the Sydney Metro network during the day and night. Sydney new-generation metro trains are designed to make customer journeys easy – from level access with platforms to multi-purpose areas for prams, luggage and bicycles and real time travel information (see sydney metro map). Fast, safe and reliable, the trains operate exclusively on the Sydney Metro network and are required to run at 98 per cent on-time reliability. The new train is made by world-class manufacturer Alstom. It is customised for Sydney but is based on the international Metropolis train, which is used in 25 cities including metros in Singapore, Barcelona and Amsterdam.
